The beautiful village of Ponda is not only famous for its ancient temples, but also for structures that will make you travel back in time! Among them is the spectacular Shahouri Masjid or the Safa Masjid belonging to the sixteenth century. Built by Ibrahim Adil shah of Bijapur in 1560 , this Islamic monument remained unharmed to tell its tale today while many monuments were then destroyed by the Portuguese. One of the star attractions of this historical monument is the huge laterite stone masonry tank with turquoise waters that is located within the mosque complex.
